A Difficult but Faithful Decision
Turin Methodist Church is an independent Methodist church. We are not currently affiliated with any denomination. This wasn't a decision we made lightly—it came after years of prayer, discussion, and seeking God's will for our congregation.
Why We Disaffiliated
In recent years, Turin Methodist Church, just like many other small, rural Methodist congregations, did not feel heard, respected, represented, or valued by the leadership of its denomination. As that body of churches moved away from its historic biblical teaching on marriage, sexuality, and scriptural authority, and debates over same-sex marriage and LGBTQ ordination divided the denomination, it became clear that our connection of churches was heading in a direction that conflicted with our understanding of Scripture and the historic Methodist faith.
Thousands of congregations across the United States—particularly in the South—faced the same decision: stay in a denomination that was compromising biblical authority, or leave to remain faithful to traditional Christian teaching.
After much prayer and congregational discernment, Turin Methodist chose to disaffiliate from its former denomination and strike out on its own. We made this decision not out of hatred or judgment toward anyone, but out of a deep conviction that God's Word must be our final authority, not cultural trends or popular opinion.
What We Believe Instead
We hold to our Wesleyan-Arminian roots and the original Methodist Articles of Religion—the same statement of faith that John Wesley sent to America that was adopted at the Christmas Conference of 1784, which established the Methodist Episcopal Church. These Articles were in effect when Turin Methodist was founded in 1828, and they remain our statement of faith today.
We believe in:
We're Still Methodist
Being independent doesn't mean we stopped being Methodist. We still follow Wesleyan theology. We still sing the great Methodist hymns. We still emphasize personal holiness, social responsibility, and the means of grace. We're simply Methodist the way Methodism was originally intended—faithful to Scripture, rooted in historic Christian teaching, and committed to reaching our community with the gospel. We do no harm, do good, and attend upon the ordinances of God.
Moving Forward in Faith
We don't regret our decision. It has allowed us to focus on what truly matters: worshiping God, preaching His Word, making disciples, and serving our community. We're not distracted by denominational politics or theological compromise. We're free to be the church God called us to be.
If you're looking for a church that takes the Bible seriously, that hasn't wavered on foundational Christian beliefs, and that values theological faithfulness over cultural acceptance, you've found your home.
