John Tomlin has faithfully served Turin Methodist Church as pastor since January 2024. His preaching is marked by biblical depth, practical application, and a genuine love for God's people.
Before a mid-life career change to professional ministry, John had a 20-year career as a civil engineer in mining and railroading. John has a bachelor’s degree in Mining and Minerals Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Divinity degree from Candler Seminary at Emory University. John’s ordination is through the National Association of Christian Ministers (NACM).
Before being called to Turin Methodist, John spent two years in non-profit ministry after five years serving as a Licensed Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church, which he left in 2021. John was a true Methodist “circuit rider”, pastoring six churches in six years, sometimes two at a time.
Pastor John is passionate about discipleship through well-rounded experiences of worship, study, and engagement. He believes the church is called to be a place where people encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, and serve their community.
When he's not preaching or visiting church members, Pastor John enjoys gardening and taking his vintage ’61 Vette to run a prayer booth at car shows. He and his wife Mary Elizabeth recently celebrated 25 years of marriage and have a college-age son.
